Mumbai Indians are currently without their former captain and veteran batter Rohit Sharma. The talismanic batsman, who opens for the five-time IPL winning side, sustained a hamstring injury during the defeat against defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The injury compelled him to not only retire hurt from the game, but also miss the fixtures after it. In the very next fixture after the RCB clash, MI skipper Hardik Pandya said that Sharma would be out for a couple of weeks.
Fans were waiting for him to return to action during the El-Clasico against Chennai Super Kings, along with MS Dhoni, who is yet to make his IPL 2026 debut. However, reports surfaced on the internet suggesting that the former India skipper has regained his fitness, but didn’t look fully convinced about it ahead of the CSK clash. It marked the first CSK-MI game without either Dhoni and Sharma in the history of the tournament.
What is the current status of Rohit Sharma’s injury?
Rohit injury update: "He continues to progress. Any call on his availability (in the game versus SRH) would be taken at the toss tomorrow: MI spokesperson @shamik100

According to a report by RevSportz, the 38-year-old continues to progress from the injury, but there is no call that has been made yet about his availability against SRH. Per reports, an MI spokesperson said, “any call on his availability would be taken at the toss tomorrow.” It means that nothing is clear, and it is still not sure if Rohit Sharma would step on to the field on Wednesday or not. In case he misses out the game against Pat Cummins’ side, his next best chance to return would come on May 2nd’s El-Clasico against CSK.
Talking about the Nita Ambani-owned franchise, the highly-decorated team has only managed to win two of its seven fixtures thus far. They are currently seeded at the bottom-second spot with four points, only ahead of LSG, who have lost six of their eight games in the season. If the Blue and Gold Army wants to keep its playoff chances alive, then it needs to record wins with higher margins in the upcoming games.
