India added another medal to its tally in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. The Weightlifting contingent continued its fine form in the event and this time it was Harjinder Kaur who added to the medal haul in the Women's 71 kg weightlifting. While she successfully lifted 93 kg in the snatch category in her third attempt, she then lifted 119 kg in the clean and jerk round to seal the medal for India.

Harjinder's bronze medal was more or less confirmed after Nigerian lifter Joy Ogbonne Eze failed in each of the three attempts in the clean and jerk category. England’s Sarah Davies won the gold medal with  229kg while Alexis Ashworth of Canada won silver with a total lift of 214kg.

This is India's ninth medal for India and 7 of those have come in weightlifting alone. In fact, all of India's gold medals have come in Weightlifting with Mirabai Chanu starting off the proceedings followed by Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli. In addition, India have 3 silver and 3 bronze with judo being the other medal fetching sport for India.

In addition, India is assured of a historic medal in Lawn Bowls the colour of which- silver or gold- will be decided after the Women's Four final on August 2.
