Everything that could go wrong is going wrong for Manchester United since the turn of the year. After the unexpected sacking of Portuguese tactician Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils have faced an unfortunate and disappointing exit from the FA Cup. United were on the receiving end of a 1-2 defeat at Old Trafford.
United are facing a huge crisis at the moment without a manager helm and it looks tougher from here on. The home side were completely outplayed by the Seagulls and were handed a shameful defeat in front of their loyal fans. United’s early exit from the FA Cup has added another feather to their long list of struggles.
The hosts started strong with Bruno Fernandes creating the first significant chance of the game, but couldn’t slot it home before Brighton found the back of the net against the run of play. Lisandro Martinez cleared Georginio Rutter’s first attempt on the goal but his clearance fell to Brajan Gruda who made no mistake in putting it past the keeper.
Senne Lammens made a huge school boy mistake and gave away the ball to Welbeck inside the box, but the striker couldn’t make the most out of it as another opportunity went begging. However, Welbeck was presented with another opportunity and this time he made no mistake in doubling Brighton’s lead with a left footed screamer.
The 13 time FA Cup winners came out all guns blazing in the final minutes of the second half and eventually pulled a goal back in the 85th minute. Benjamin Sesko outjumped everyone and executed Fernandes’ delivery to perfection to make it 1-2. Shea Lacey received his marching orders as United were down to ten men. Brighton managed to hold their nerves and pulled off a famous win at the theatre of dreams in the process.
