The buzz around the FIFA World Cup 2026 is already sky-rocketing and fans are eager to find out which 48 countries will be the ones to participate in the world’s biggest sporting festival. The mega event which will be hosted in Mexico, Canada and USA is set to commence from June 11, 2026. 

The FIFA World Cup qualifiers are underway and some thrilling encounters in the South American qualifiers have already set the tone for the grand spectacle. Following the qualifiers yesterday Columbia, Uruguay. and Paraguay have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026. While Columbia and Uruguay smashed their opponents with a 3-0 scoreline respecitvely, a draw was enough for Paraguay to secure their spot. Paraguay will be returning to the World Cup for the first time in 16 years after their loss in the quarter-finals of the 2010 edition. Columbia have also managed to qualify after missing out on previous World Cup. 

Venezuela or Bolivia to take playoff place in final round of World Cup qualifier

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be Columbia’s seventh appearance in the tournament history, thanks to the heroics from James Rodriguez, Cordoba, and Quintero who smashed the ball into the back of the net, to defeat Bolivia 3-0 and proceed to the grandest stage. Uruguay also secured their place with a stylish 3-0 victory over Peru, which ended the hopes for the latter to qualify as they needed two wins out of two games to achieve their dream. 

With these results, six CONMEBOL teams have already confirmed their tickets to World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. However, the playoff spot still remains up for grabs with Venezuela and Bolivia in the recokening. All of qualified teams have given it their best to earn their deserved spot in the tournament. It will be interesting to see which of these teams will go deep in the tournament and potentially re-write history.
