On Wednesday, September 17, Thomas Partey, the former Arsenal player, who currently plays for Spanish club Villarreal, pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one charge of sexual assault. In his appearance at the Southwark Crown Court in London, England, the 32-year-old, who is a midfielder hailing from Ghana, has denied raping two women and sexually assaulting another woman in court before being granted a conditional bail.

Notably, the alleged offences regarding Thomas Partey happened in 2021 and 2022 when he was a part of Arsenal under manager Mikel Arteta in the Premier League. The charges in the case were made just four days after he left the London-based club earlier this year after his contract with them expired on June 30, and as per the report from BBC, his trial is due to happen at the Southwark Crown Court on November 2, 2026.

Thomas Partey will not be stopped from playing football as per the conditions of his bail

During his court appearance earlier today in London, Thomas Partey confirmed his name before pleading not guilty to the charges of rape and sexual assault against him. It was just last night when he played for Villarreal in the opening round of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) 2025-26 against Tottenham Hotspur, coming on to the pitch as a substitute during their 1-0 loss away from home.

As per the conditions of the bail granted to him, Thomas Partey won’t be stopped from playing football, but he must notify police 24 hours in advance about travelling internationally. The Ghanaian must not contact the complainants of his case either, which could prove to be a disaster for him in his bid to prove himself not guilty in the eyes of the court when the trial begins late next year in London, England.
