On Thursday, September 11, David Coote, the ex-Premier League referee, pleaded not guilty to the charge of making an indecent image of a child in court. Hailing from Woodhill Road in Collingham, Nottinghamshire, the 43-year-old made an appearance at the Nottingham Magistrates Court, where he made the comment under oath after getting charged on August 12 after an investigation into the matter by the police in the region.

As per the report published in BBC Sport, the Nottinghamshire Police charged David Coote after their officers recovered a video file from him in the matter this past February. During the court proceedings earlier today, the former football official spoke only to give confirmation about his name, date of birth apart from entering the plea as part of the hearing, which lasted for 18 minutes.

David Coote will appear at the Nottingham Crown Court on October 9

After getting a conditional bail in court, David Coote will now be appearing at the Nottingham Crown Court on October 9 in the next phase of the case, which could possibly determine whether he will be proven guilty or not. It is important to remember that making an indecent image of a child is about either downloading, saving, or sharing content, which can also be abusive in nature.

Moreover, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) have already sacked David Coote as the Premier League referee after his derogatory comments on former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp came into the picture, while the UEFA banned him from their competitions till the summer of 2026. Also, it was this past January’s interview, when the 43-year-old made a revelation that he is gay, and before that he made bad choices while struggling to hide his sexuality.
