Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is highly-likely to sign a four-year contract with the club. As per Spanish daily sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the new contract will keep him at the club until June 2029. However, a formal announcement is yet to happen as all parties have to give a final nod. The Netherlands’ player has been associated with Barca since 2019 and he has scored 14 goals in 183 matches. The Dutch player was also a part of Barcelona’s side that won the 2024/25 La Liga season.
As per sources, the new contract will also deliver De Jong a pay raise from €400 million to €500m. The 28-year-old was a part of team’s starting XI that registered a dominating 4-0 win against Malta on October 10. Barcelona will play their next match against Girona on October 18 and they will look to bounce back in the ongoing La Liga season, as reigning champions faced a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Sevilla on October 5.
Barcelona’s performance in the ongoing La Liga 2025-26 season

Before the international hiatus, Barca recorded a couple of defeats. Before losing their game against Sevilla, they were also beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League match on October 2.
