Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi for £35 million. The 25-year-old is set to finalise his move on Monday in London, where he will undergo a medical before putting pen-to-paper on a long-term five-year deal with the Premier League champions. The transfer is all but confirmed after both clubs settled on a fee for Guehi, following Liverpool’s initial proposal of £35 million along with a 10 percent sell-on clause.
He will join the Anfield-based side while boasting more than 240 senior appearances for club and country, to add valuable experience to Arne Slot’s defensive unit. His arrival follows Liverpool’s defensive rebuild earlier this summer, which included the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Leoni. Although Guehi attracted strong interest from elsewhere, he opted for Anfield as the next stage of his career, having previously represented Chelsea and Swansea before establishing himself at Crystal Palace.
Marc Guehi's speed and intelligent game will benefit Liverpool in defense
The 25-year-old center-back played six times for Palace this season, including the FA Community Shield 2025win against Liverpool. One of the reasons Liverpool were keen to sign the deal with Guehi is due to his pace and sharp game awareness, which helps him to make swift recovery tackles. During the 2024-25 Premier League season, he averaged 4.27 recoveries per 90 minutes, ranking him among the top 26 percent of centre-backs.
On Sunday, after winning 3-0 against Aston Villa with Crystal Palace, Marc Guehi spoke about his goal in the match. "All I know is when you score goals like that, it is always down to team performance. People will try to single out the goal but that was a clear team performance tonight," he said.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is looking to get its team strong. One of the major concerns about Liverpool is its defensive stability after conceding six goals in its opening three matches of the season. They were beaten on penalties by Palace - captained by Marc Guehi - in the Community Shield at Wembley, apart twice surrendering a two-goal advantage in the Premier League against Bournemouth and Newcastle before rallying to secure victory.
