With the football summer transfer window coming to a close on Monday, September 1, Liverpool confirmed the signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, bringing an end to a lengthy transfer saga. With this move, Liverpool came to a British transfer record deal of worth £125 million.

The signing of Isak for transfer fee of £125 million surpassed Liverpool’s previous British record of £116 million, that they paid for Florian Wirtz in July and Chelsea’s £115 million for their acquisition of Moises Caicedo in August 2023. Isak’s transfer makes him the fourth expensive player globally, following Neymar’s USD262 million move to PSG, Kylian Mbappe’s USD216 million PSG transfer and Philippe Coutinho’s USD192 million Barcelona move.

It’s been a long journey to get here: Alexander Isak after transfer completion at Liverpool

The Swedish international, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season and missed Newcastle’s first three matches of the season due to his consistent transfer news, expressed relief on his move. “I feel amazing. It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it,” the 25-year-old said, as stated in Liverpool’s statement.

“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there,” he added. The forward will be seen donning the No. 9 at Liverpool and will be playing alongside Mohamed Salah at Anfield.
