Alexander Isak, the Swedish striker, signed for Liverpool in a British record deal of £125 million from Newcastle United on deadline day of the summer transfer window earlier this month. But his transfer was anything but smooth sailing as there were a lot of differences between Alexander Isak and the Newcastle United hierarchy, with the player going on record about how he thought the club wanted to sabotage his move to Liverpool.

Notably, in his recent press conference, Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, addressed the departure of Alexander Isak to Liverpool, stating that his relationship with him changed after he went on a “strike” to get the deal done. Since the start of the 2025-26 season before his exit, the Swede trained away from his former teammates at Newcastle United without being added to their squad for any of the first three matches at the start of the Premier League campaign.

That was probably a turning point in our relationship: Howe on Isak's 'strike'

Before detailing how his relationship with Alexander Isak changed, Eddie Howe mentioned the following about his former player, which read, as per BBC Sport, “Alex and I always enjoyed a great relationship. I loved working with him. I hope he enjoyed working with us. It was mutually beneficial. We helped him become the player he in part is today and he helped us as a team achieve some unbelievable milestones and was part of a very successful team.”

"The moment he went on strike our relationship did change and that was probably a turning point in our relationship,” Eddie Howe further remarked. Moreover, Newcastle United are set to take on Wolves in the next match in the Premier League 2025-26 season at the St James’ Park in Tyneside after failing to win any of their first three contests in the competition, finding themselves in 17th place with just two points to their name.
