Luis Enrique, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who is 55 years of age, will undergo surgery on a fractured collarbone suffered in a cycling accident on Friday, September 5. The Spaniard, who led PSG to their first-ever UEFA Champions League title towards the end of the 2024-25 season, was treated by emergency services in the immediate aftermath of the accident, as per the statement from the club on social media platform X.
Notably, PSG have made a strong start to their Ligue 1 campaign with three wins on the spin last month under manager Luis Enrique before the ongoing international break, including a recent 6-3 victory over Toulouse away from home, in which Joao Neves scored a hat-trick. But now, due to the unfortunate turn of events, there is no confirmation on whether the Spaniard will be in the dugout in the upcoming matches of PSG later this month.
The Club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery: PSG on Luis Enrique's accident
PSG took to their official X account to confirm the cycling accident involving Luis Enrique, extending their support and wishing him “swift recovery”. They wrote, “Following a cycling accident on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was treated by the emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone. The Club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course.”
In their next match after the international break, PSG will be taking on Lens at Parc des Princes in Ligue 1 on Sunday, September 14 prior to kick-starting their UEFA Champions League defense three days later at home against Atalanta. During his managerial tenure with PSG, which began in 2023, Luis Enrique has also helped the club win the Ligue 1 and French Cup twice in a row apart from taking them to the final of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 earlier this summer.
