Manchester United and Manchester City, the two of the biggest football clubs in the world, will pay tribute to the victims of the Manchester synagogue attack before their respective Premier League matches this weekend. The tragic incident, which happened on Thursday, October 2, led to the death of two people outside the Heaton Park Congregation Synagogue in Manchester, namely Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, while three others were left injured.
Notably, the Manchester United women’s team has already paid its tribute to the victims during their Women’s Super League match against Chelsea at the Leigh Sports Village in Manchester last night, October 3. The Manchester United men’s team will wear black armbands and hold a minute’s silence before taking on Sunderland at Old Trafford in the Premier League clash this Saturday at Old Trafford.
In his press conference ahead of the Sunderland clash, club manager Ruben Amorim addressed the Manchester synagogue attack by saying, as per BBC Sport, “It is a crazy world we are living in at the moment, lot of big things happened, sympathy to victims, we will pay tribute tomorrow.” Apart from this, the under-18 and under-21 teams of Manchester United will also don the black armbands during their matches this weekend.
Manchester City players will have black armbands on their sleeves against Brentford
As far as Manchester City men’s team are concerned, their players will have black armbands on their sleeves on Sunday during their clash against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium in London while agreeing to hold a moment’s silence with the opposition club prior to kick-off. Also, Manchester City women’s team will pay a tribute to the attack victims before taking on Arsenal in the Women’s Super League match at the Joie Stadium.
Moreover, while the tributes might not be a regular feature in English football this weekend, the Premier League and EFL will provide support to clubs who want to proceed with it.
