The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to commence from the last week of March. However, a full-fledged schedule from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still awaited. Any clarity on the venues for the entire edition is also awaited but as per the information with SportsTiger and several other reports, BCCI is planning to host the entire edition across six venues in three different cities.

While everyone waits for the BCCI to post an update on IPL 2022 schedule, SportsTiger will try to break every information we have.

When will be the IPL 2022 Schedule be out?

This is the biggest question doing rounds on the internet. For those who are continuously googling about it, you need to stop. Because the list of IPL 2022 Fixtures won't be out till the first week of March. Earlier, the BCCI had planned to submit the details around IPL 2022 venues and schedule to franchises by February 20. But after a conflict with the broadcasters over IPL 2022 Start date, the board has pushed its plans to a further date. Now, the franchises will have to wait till the last week of February or the first week of March for the details.

What will be the venues for IPL 2022?

As already mentioned, the BCCI has plans to hold the entire 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League across six venues in three different cities- Mumbai, Pune, and Ahmedabad. While five venues in Mumbai and Pune are expected to host the league phase, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the playoffs.

Besides three tried and tested venues in Mumbai-the Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in south Mumbai, the Dr. D.Y. Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium on the outskirts of Pune — the BCCI is considering hosting a handful of games at the Jio Stadium. But a nod from the broadcast team is awaited by the board before it includes it in the IPL 2022 Venue list.

What will be IPL 2022 format and how many games will a team play?

With the addition of two new teams, the Indian Premier League is set to return to its 2012 format where the teams were divided into two groups. The ten teams are expected to be divided into two groups of five teams each. Every team in a group will play the other four teams in the same group once while they will play the five teams from the other group twice. This will help in keeping the number of league games for every team to 14. And the total number of league games will then be 70.

Total number of matches this season?

With 70 league games and four playoff matches- Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and Final, the total number of matches this season will increase to 74 from last year's 60.
