The much-awaited 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham have finally started with the best athletes from around the globe competing in more than 20 sports. India has had some incredible results over the history of the event with an overall tally of 504 medals with 181 gold, 173 silver and 149 bronze.
India's most successful events have been shooting, weightlifting and wrestling as these sports alone have bagged 362 medals. Similarly, for the 2022 edition, India has sent out a dominant contingent with stars like Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Sharath Kamal, etc. to keep their medal hopes alive.

Satwiksairaj Reddy and Chirag Shetty's pair wins GOLD in badminton Men's doubles in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022. The Indian duo beat their England opponent in straight sets of 21-15, 21-13.
India's wait for maiden gold medal in hockey at the Commonwealth Games continued as Australia defeated Indian men's hockey team in the final on Monday. Team India had to settle with a silver after losing 0-7 against the Aussies in Birmingham.
40-year-old Achanta Sharath Kamal defeated England's Liam Pitchford to win another gold for India. After going down 11-13 in the first set, he clinched the next four sets to continue his dominance. He won the game 11-7,11-2,11-6, 11-8.
India's Sathiyan Gnanasekaran won bronze medal in men’s singles table tennis event on Monday after defeating England's Paul Drinkhall in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Sathiyan won the bronze medal match 4-3 against his English opponent.
World No.10 and India’s ace shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated NG Tze Yong of Malaysia in the Men’s Singles Final to win the gold medal at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games. Sen won the match 2-1 despite lagging in the first game. He beat Tze Yong 19-21, 21-9, 21-16.
PV Sindhu clinched her first-ever gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games on Monday. Sindhu won the game against Canada's Li in straight sets 21-15, 21-13 to take India's 56th medal.
The Indian badminton men's singles player Kidambi Srikanth defeated Singapore's Jia Heng Tang in straight sets to clinch the bronze medal in the event. Srikanth beat Heng 21-15, 21-18. Read more here.
The Indian Mixed doubles pair of Sourav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal won the bronze medal in Squash at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games. They beat the Australian pair of Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley in straight sets of 11-8, 11-4. Read more here.
Ace Indian javelin thrower Annu Rani captured a bronze medal for her country after finishing in the third position in the final of the women's javelin throw final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Sunday.
The Indian Men's Doubles pair of Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran settled for Silver medal in the category after losing to the English pair of Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford 11-8, 8-11, 3-11, 11-7, 4-11 in the final. Read more here.
