There have been wild scenes in the capital city of Karnataka after Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their maiden IPL trophy on June 3. After RCB defeated Punjab Kings in the final of IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad, the celebrations started in Bengaluru and the fans took over the streets to celebrate the franchise's maiden IPL title after 18 years. However, in some place, the celebrations also turned out to be become disaster as a stampede-like situation took place in the city.
Just a day after winning the IPL title, all the RCB members arrived in Bengaluru to celebrate the trophy with the fans. The fans were also gathered in large numbers from Vidhana Soudha to M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, due to the large crowd, stampede-like situation also took place in the city. As reported by NDTV, around 11 people lost their lives while over 50 people are reported to have sustained injures.

A stampede broke outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium which also forced the to police to do a lathi charge on the people. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister also raised his concerns over the situation and said, “I apologise for the overcrowding.” Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya also urged people to celebrate responsibly and not turn a moment of joy into a tragedy.
Apart from that, Amit Malviya from BJP also commented about the administrative failure and said that such incident could have been avoided. “This heartbreaking incident could have been avoided. The lack of basic administrative foresight and failure in crowd control by the state government has led to an irreparable loss,” Malviya was quoted as saying by News18.
