MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, is in the twilight of his professional cricket career. The 42-year-old retired from international cricket in 2020, and since then, he has been playing exclusively for CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL), taking them to two championship titles in the last three seasons.

Since the year 2020, there have been constant rumours and speculations in the cricketing world regarding when MS Dhoni will retire from professional cricket. The Indian legend has also addressed the question about his future in the CSK colours several times, but he has always focused on continuing his career with the franchise, rather than committing on a retirement date.

In the IPL 2024, MS Dhoni will continue with his captaincy duties for CSK, aiming to take them to their sixth title, but his future in the league is uncertain from 2025 onwards, as of this writing. With a thought that nothing lasts forever, SportsTiger looks at three players who can replace MS Dhoni as CSK captain, when he does decide to hang up his boots for good.

Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja became the captain of Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2022 season, taking over the reins from MS Dhoni, but his leadership tenure was underwhelming to say the very least. The Indian all-rounder led CSK in eight matches, registering only two wins, while his performances with the bat, ball, and in the field dwindled drastically too.

In the mid-season of IPL 2022, Ravindra Jadeja stepped down from CSK captaincy role, handing over the responsibility back to MS Dhoni. With his experience of captaining the Chennai Super Kings in the past, Jadeja, the current vice-captain of the franchise, is one of the candidates to replace Dhoni in the role once again.
