MS Dhoni might be featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the last time with his appearance for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2025 edition of the T20 tournament, set to be played from March 22 to May 25. The veteran has registered immense success in his 17-year IPL career. Following Dhoni’s retirement, CSK will have to get a reliable wicketkeeper-batter who can serve them like their five-time trophy winning legend. With the speculation of Dhoni’s IPL retirement making rounds, SportsTiger has discussed three players who might be replacing the 43-year-old in CSK.

3. KL Rahul
KL Rahul will be delivering his services for Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2025 but in the future, CSK might not shy away from snapping him if he goes under the hammer again. The right-handed batter won the Orange Cap in 2020 and he still possesses the potential to change the game with his excellent batting and wicket-keeping skills.
2. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant has become the costliest player in history of IPL after bagging the lucrative deal of INR 27 Crore from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 2025 auction held in Jeddah. Pant will have to justify his gigantic amount with his performance as skipper and batter for his new team. In case the southpaw fails miserably, Lucknow may part ways with him which will force him to register for the 2026 auction again. Chennai, who might see Dhoni bidding adieu to IPL after IPL 2025, might raise bidding paddles to sign up Pant in the next auction.
1. Devon Conway
Devon Conway has shown he can deliver top-notch services to CSK as batter. Back in 2023, when Chennai lifted the trophy for the fifth time under Dhoni’s sensational leadership, New Zealand opener contributed 672 runs in 16 matches. Noting his batting prowess, the Yellow Army can hand him the task to keep wickets as well for the side.
