After two successful seasons with back-to-back playoff appearances, Lucknow Super Giants missed the final four for the first time in IPL 2024. LSG, led by KL Rahul, started the 17th edition as one of the favourites to make it to the playoffs and were playing great cricket before suffering a few major losses.

Their defeats against Kolkata Knight Riders (home), Sunrisers Hyderabad (away) and Delhi Capitals (away) derailed their season and knocked them out of the playoff race.  So after the completion of their season, let us look at why LSG failed to reach the playoffs in 2024.

3 Reasons why Lucknow Super Giants didn't qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs

Before the start of the season, Lucknow was hit with a massive blow as their strike bowler, Mark Wood, was unavailable for IPL 2024. Wood was a crucial part of the LSG squad as the bowling attack comprising inexperienced Indian pacers was built to function around him. But in his absence, Super Giants pace battery lacked the cutting edge and left them struggling throughout the season. Though players like Mayank Yadav, Moshin Khan and Yash Thakur produced moments of brilliance; they failed to sustain it through the season.
