The 43-person Indian rowing squad left for Hangzhou, China, on Thursday, 7th September in preparation for the forthcoming Asian Games. As a tribute to the cycle of giving back to the sport that has given them so much, the team is made up of a varied mix of 20 men and 13 women, as well as gold medal winners from the Asian Games on the coaching staff.
India is proudly sending a team to the Asian Games this year, which represents a historic milestone as it is the first time the Women's Eight sport has been included. The team will take part in an unprecedented international training camp in Hangzhou that will be supported by the government at a cost of INR 1 Crore.
The participants will participate in the week-long training camp that will start before their arrival at the Asian Games village on September 16 in order to help them adjust and get ready for the competition.
Before the group left for China, Sports Authority of India (SAI) Mumbai authorities offered them a warm send-off. The first group of Indian boxers and sailors also left for China earlier this week to train for the multisport competition.
While the sailors are getting acclimated to the water at the Ningbo Xiangshan Sailing Centre, the location of the Asian Games sailing contests, the boxers are refining their abilities in Wuyishan City. Notably, cricket will also be played as a part of the multisport event, which will be held in Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8.
