The auction for the Women’s Premier League Season 2 took place on December 9 in Mumbai. A total of 165 players, including 61 overseas players went under the hammer as teams looked to strengthen their squads before the start of the new season next year. Five teams, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, UP Warriorz, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals participated in the auctions. The teams engaged in heating bidding wars for some notable players and bought them by spending whopping sums of money. Here are the top five purchases from the WPL Season 2 auction: Kashvee Gautam India’s young uncapped all-rounder, Kashvi Gautam became the most expensive uncapped player at the auction after Gujarat Giants purchased her for INR 2 crore. Giants engaged in a heating war with UP Warriorz to acquire the services of Gautam for the forthcoming season. With her bid, the 20-year-old player broke the record of UP Warriorz-bought Vrinda Dinesh for INR 1.3 crore. Gautam is a seamer who can also bat for her squad in times of need. #PAGE_BREAK# Annabel Sutherland The Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland emerged as the most expensive player for Delhi Capitals. Sutherland created a bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians and the former ended up buying her for INR 2 crore. The 22-year-old expressed her happiness on being bought for a whopping amount. Sutherland told Cricbuzz, "It is a big compliment to be in demand. I now look forward to repaying the Capitals' faith in me. I'm very excited to be joining the Delhi Capitals. Dinesh was snapped by UP Warriorz for a huge amount of INR 1.3 crore. The 22-year-old had a base price of INR 10 lakh and she drew interest from a few teams before the Warriorz secured her services for the forthcoming season. Notably, Dinesh has played an instrumental role in Karnataka’s run to the final of the Senior Women’s one-day competition, which was held earlier this year. #PAGE_BREAK# Shabnim Ismail Another name that has had a great day at the WPL Season 2 auction is former South Africa pacer Shabnim Ismail. The veteran started a three-way bidding war during the auction but was ultimately purchased by Mumbai Indians for a whopping INR 1.20 crore. The 35-year-old was released by UP Warriorz ahead of the auction. She represented the Hobart Hurricanes during the 2023 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and picked 13 wickets in 14 matches with an economy rate of 6.22. #PAGE_BREAK# Phoebe Litchfield Gujarat Giants acquired the services of another Australian batter Phoebe Litchfield for INR 1 crore at the auction. Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz engaged in a bidding war to get the signature of Litchfield but the formers came on top of the war. Litchfield recently became the joint-fastest batter alongside New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine to slam a half-century (18 balls) in T20Is, against West Indies Women. Not only this, but she was also the first player to be sold. Her base price was INR 30 lakh but she was sold for INR 1 crore.
