Yuvraj Singh lauds Abhishek Sharma for his record-breaking innings in 5th T20I vs England; latter responds

Seeing the youngster play a fiery inning of 135 runs off 54 deliveries, he received a delightful tweet from former India all-rounder and legend Yuvraj Singh. The Team India World Cup winner took to X (formerly called Twitter) and praised the youngster, claiming that this where he wanted to see the young batter. “Well played @IamAbhiSharma4! That’s where I want to see you! Proud of you”, Singh captioned a post.

However, Singh has widely spoken of Abhishek Sharma as and when he has performed on the international stage, this was just another instance of the same. Seeing Yuvraj Singh write about Sharma, the 24-year-old also could not hold his happiness and excitement and exclaimed that it was first instance that his mentor didn’t threat of throwing “a chappal”.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Abhishek Sharma said, “I think this is the first time Yuvraj has tweeted something without adding ‘I will send a chappal’. Finally, he is proud of me. So I’m very happy.” The 24-year-old further revealed how his mentor backed him over the years, adding, “Three years ago, when I started working with him, he always told me that, as a player, doubts are natural. But he always reassured me, saying, 'You will be there, and you will perform. You will win matches for India.”

"I remember during our training camp in COVID times, he repeatedly told me, 'don’t think short-term. I’m preparing you for the long run.' Now that things are coming together, I am really happy," Abhishek further added.
