Kulde ep Yadav, the Indian unorthodox spinner, narrated his struggles with the ball from 2020 to 2022, in the aftermath of MS Dhoni retiring from international cricket. The 29-year-old spoke about how he wanted MS Dhoni to “play more,” because the former India captain made it very easy for him to bowl while taking the wicket-keeping gloves.
After bursting on the international scene in 2017, Kuldeep Yadav made an instant impact for India in the spin bowling department in all formats. His partnership with MS Dhoni from 2017 to 2019 brought some of the most impressive victories for the Indian cricket team in limited-overs cricket in away conditions.
In his interview with the Indian Express, Kuldeep Yadav detailed the positive impact of MS Dhoni on his international career during his early days. He was quoted as saying, “I wanted him to play more because it was very easy for us when we were bowling. After Dhoni retired, my performance with the ball wasn’t great.”
During his international career, Kuldeep Yadav has picked up more than half of his wickets in limited-overs cricket in the presence of MS Dhoni, while his average is far better with the ball too.
Kuldeep Yadav elaborated on the importance of MS Dhoni’s guiding influence on his performances in the early stages of his international career, and said, “When a person guides you and that person’s influence is not there anymore, then suddenly everything is on your shoulders. It takes time for you to react to the situation… that probably happened to me. Then slowly you understand and become self-reliant.”
