India’s Test mainstay and veteran Ajinkya Rahane on Tuesday, February 11 guided his state team, Mumbai from the front with a well-made century. Leading Mumbai as they eye another Ranji Trophy title, Rahane scored a second innings century after finishing Day 3 at unbeaten 88.
The veteran Indian cricketer reached the three-figure mark off 160 deliveries as Mumbai extended their lead past 300 against Haryana at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, Rahane’s stay was cut short by Anuj Thakral’s good length delivery, which was caught by Rohit Pramod Sharma behind the stumps.

After being unbeaten at 88, Rahane reached the triple digit score off 160 deliveries. However, he could only add eight runs thereafter before heading back to the pavilion. Furthermore, the century was even more special for Rahane, who got these figures in his 200th First-Class match. His innings of 108 runs off 180 deliveries was laced by 13 boundaries, at a strike rate of 60.
Rahane now has a total of 41 First-Class centuries, including 12 in Test cricket. With a 108-run knock, Rahane is now close to scoring 14,000 runs in red-ball format. Speaking in particular of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, Rahane has amassed 437 runs in 12 innings, including a century and two fifty-plus scores.
Although, the star batter hasn’t played Test cricket since July 2023, he has remained a consistent performer in domestic cricket. Earlier this season, Rahane made an impression in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, amassing 469 runs in nine matches at an average of 58.62 and a strike rate of 164.56.
Speaking of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match, Mumbai remain in a dominant position, posting 353 runs lead for Haryana. With over 300 runs needed at the time of writing for Haryana to progress into the tournament, the Ankit Kumar-led side’s scorecard reads 24/1 after seven overs.
