With the five-match Test series currently standing 2-1 in favour of Team India, the Rohit Sharma-led side likely to make some changes in their playing XI. With Jasprit Bumrah being rested for the fourth Test, which is scheduled to be played in Ranchi from February 23 to 27, and KL Rahul also ruled out, India is likely to hand debut cap to Akash Deep.

The Bengal fast bowler is said to replace Bumrah in the XI and is likely to partner Mohammed Siraj and Mukesh Kumar in the Ranchi Test. As reported by the Indian Express, the team management and selector are likely to go with Akash Deep as they seem to be impressed with the way he bowled in matches between India A and England Lions.

Akash picked up 10 wickets in the two red-ball matches for India A in Ahmedabad in January 2024. Moreover, he has scalped 104 wickets from 30 First-Class games at an average of 23.58.
