With the five-match Test series between England and India currently placed 2-1 in favour of the hosts, the two teams will return to action in the fourth Test, set to be played from Tuesday, July 23 at the Emirates Old Trafford. Speaking of the series, England took a lead in the series after a five-wicket win over India in Leeds. Thereafter, India bounced back in style, leveling the series with a 336-run win in Edgbaston Test.
In the third Test at Lord’s, the Three Lions bounced back, holding their nerves until the final hour to register a 22-run win and go 2-1 up in the series. However, the Men in Blue will hope to level the series in Manchester and take the series into the decider, which is set to be played from July 31 at the Kennington Oval in London.
Akash Deep ruled out of Manchester Test vs England
But with the Indian team struggling with injuries to several players, including Arshdeep Singh, Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep, the Indian skipper on the eve of the fourth Test, opened up on the availability of star pacer. Speaking at the pre-match presser in Manchester, when inquired of Akash Deep’s participation, Gill responded, "Akash Deep has been ruled out of this Test. It’s difficult when players are injured.”
It is to be noted that Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out with a knee injury, along with Arshdeep Singh, who sustained a cut on his hand during a practice session. Furthermore, when inquired of Anshul Kamboj’s participation, Gill responded, “He is very close to making debut. We will see between Prasidh and Anshul tomorrow.”
