Alex Palou, the 2021 NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion will test drive for Formula 1 giants McLaren at US Grand Prix on October 22, the F1 team announced on Friday. While the McLaren F1 team also confirmed Pato O’Ward as the test driver for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The two drivers will take part in the Free Practice 1 sessions.
Talking about Palou, the Spanish driver will drive Daniel Ricciardo’s car for 60-minute session in Austin. He has had an impressive career in motorsport which includes four wins and 15 podium finishes in INDYCAR. He also finished third in 2019 Super Formula Championship.
While the Arrow McLaren SP driver Pato O’Ward will drive Lando Norris’ car at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He’ll sit behind the wheels of MCL36 on November 18, 2022 at the Free Practice 1 sessions at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The McLaren Team Principal Andreas Seidl said, “Alex and Pato impressed with their recent tests in Barcelona and Austria, and we’re excited to offer them the experience in the MCL36. It’s a great chance for them to showcase their skills on Formula 1’s global stage”.
The 25-year-old Alex Palou showed excitement after this announcement by McLaren and added that he looks forward to help the side in preparation for the 2022 US Grand Prix.
Similarly, the Mexican driver also took to social media to share this news, while thanking McLaren for giving him a chance to drive MCL36.
