Amidst the sensational success of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Cricket Australia (CA) are keeping their expectations high for the Ashes 2025, in terms of spectators attendance at stadiums. The Ashes will be played Down Under from November 21 to January 8 and Australia will be defending the title as they succeeded in retaining the urn by ending the 2023 series in a stalemate in England. CA Chief Executive Todd Greenberg, after witnessing the ongoing success of the England-India Test series, has hoped that the Ashes will surpass the 837,879 gross fans footfall recorded during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
BGT 2025 was the highest attended Test tournament in Australia’s history besides the Ashes 1936, when the registered attendance at 9,46,750. Sir Donald Bradman was at his best then. “It's great, isn't it? It's great cricket (India vs England series for Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy) to watch as a fan. Everyone will have their opinion when our English friends arrive I'm sure, and we're looking forward to that very much. I love the way they're playing their cricket and I can't wait to see them test themselves on our shores. It's great cricket to watch leading into them coming here on this Ashes trip. It will sell more tickets for us. We like to think that's talkability,” said Greenberg while speaking to Sydney Morning Herald.
England’s bazball approach in Australia
It will be the first time that England will tour Australia after adopting the baseball approach under Brendon McCullum’s coaching. Eyes will be set on how the English side will bat against Australia’s formidable fast- bowling attack on the rapid tracks of The Gabba, Adelaide Oval, and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
England won their last Test series on the Aussie soil in 2010, under Andrew Strauss’ captaincy. Alastair Cook and James Anderson shone for the visitors. Cook notched up 766 runs and became the Player of the Series while Anderson chipped in 24 wickets in the English team’s 3-1 success.
