The Mumbai Indians suffered their seventh-straight defeat to arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings in an entertaining encounter at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The match was full of improbable moments that made it a memorable encounter.
But one of the biggest moments from the game was when Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni were seen committing lapses while fielding. Jadeja, reckoned as one of the best fielders in the world, dropped two catches followed by Dhoni who missed a stumping. Reacting to these moments countless fans voiced their thoughts on social media.
But one of the funniest reactions came from former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who compared this incident to the batting of former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi. Tweeting over Dhoni and Jadeja's mishaps, Mishra said: "Jadeja dropping a catch and MSD missing a stumping is like Shahid Afridi batting sensibly with eyes open. No one can believe it happened.”
The 42-year-old all-rounder was one of the most destructive batters in cricketing history. But he was also considered as one of the most erratic players as he would go on the offensive side from the first ball. Hence Mishra’s tweet hits the nail on the head in comparing the two incidents.
But despite these misfortunes, the Chennai Super Kings managed to pull off an incredible victory, thanks to late heroics by MS Dhoni who scored 20 runs in the final over. Mishra didn't stay away from acknowledging the legend's heroics.
One of the key contributors to this victory was Indian uncapped pacer, Mukesh Choudhary. The 25-year-old from Rajasthan took three wickets in his three overs while giving just 19 runs.
Choudhary was extremely elated with his performance as he said, “I never thought I'd play cricket. Was at boarding school in Pune, we had an hour's sports period and I used to play all kinds of sports there. Tried playing cricket and seemed to be good at it. Have to bowl well in the powerplay where I'm supposed to bowl three overs. There is no pressure actually, to play with such big players around you automatically takes all the pressure away. I just want to have a good time and enjoy myself.”
