Days prior to the inaugural edition of Neeraj Chopra Classic, a one-of-a-kind tournament in India, Grenada’s Anderson Peters is the latest to withdraw from the event. Peters, who recently lost the World No. 1 spot to Neeraj Chopra in the recently-released men’s javelin throw rankings by World Athletics, have pulled out due to an injury.

It is to be noted that Anderson, who is a two-time World Championship gold-medallist javelin thrower, was one of key contenders in the Neeraj Chopra Classic lineup, and will not be seen in action after he encountered an injury in the last event, which was the 64th Ostrava Golden Spike 2025. The 27-year-old Grenadian has reportedly sustained an ankle injury which resulted in his last-minute withdrawal.

“Anderson Peters has been ruled out of Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 due to an ankle injury sustained during the last competition. Poland’s Cyprian Mrzyglod has been named as his replacement in the final lineup,” a statement from the organisers read. It is to be noted that Mrzyglod won the 2019 European U23 event with his best throw of 84.97m.

However, with Anderson’s absence from the lineup, Neeraj Chopra will be be seen competing alongside the likes f Curtis Thompson of USA, matin Konecny of Czech Republic, Julius Yego of Kenya, among others.
