Manchester United confirmed that Antony will resume his first-team training with the club after allegations of domestic violence. Not only this, but the Brazilian winger will also be available for selection and could probably be seen in their squad to lock horns with Crystal Palace in the Premier League this weekend. The Red Devils said that the youngster has been cooperating with police since the case was registered.
Not only this, but the club also said that the footballer will continue to be a part of the squad until any further development takes place by the police. The club in an official statement said, "Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has cooperated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so. As Antony's employer, Manchester United, has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed.”
The statement further said, “This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case. As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
United put Antony on a paid leave earlier this month so that he could focus on clearing his name after he refused allegations of assault by three women. The club believes that the footballer has provided the officials enough evidence to prove his innocence. It is to be noted that the 23-year-old last played with the club in a game against Arsenal, where they ended up losing the game 1-3.
