Team India captain Rohit Sharma has been engulfed in an unnecessary controversy after a political leader from the Indian National Congress (INC) made derogatory remarks around the veteran Indian batter. Although, Rohit Sharma is currently leading the Men in Blue in the ongoing ICC Men’s Champions Trophy in Dubai, he was surrounded by a new controversy after Congress leader, Shama Mohamed fat shamed the Indian cricketer.

However, fans flooded social media hitting out at the political leader for her remarks, members of the cricketing fraternity also opened up on the same. Among many, former India cricketer and father of Yuvraj Singh, Yograj Singh also expressed his disappointment while warning it to turn into a political issue.

Apologise or leave the country: Yograj Singh’s stern action on fat-shaming row

Although, days after the remarks, Singh also opined that people living in this country cannot make such comments, especially when it is around a figure who has earned several laurels for the country. "The people of our country cannot say bad things about our players and our countrymen while living in this country. If anyone sitting in the political system speaks about those who have brought pride, won tournaments after tournaments, have world records, and have been the greatest players of this era, then they should be ashamed," Yograj Singh said in an interaction with ANI.

"I was very hurt by these comments. We just saw what happened in Pakistan. Some of their great players were ridiculing their national team players. But we, cultured people, educated people, people of India, shouldn't be doing this,” he continued. "Whoever is the MP, that woman is like our mother or a daughter, whom we respect... But this is like a mother killing her son after giving birth, a sister breaking her brother's Rakhi after tying it, and a daughter throwing her father out of the house. This is what this feels like," Singh added.

In another bold move, the 66-year-old added that if it would have happened in front of him, he would request the person to either apologise or leave the country, while urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take strict action against the Congress leader. "Action should be taken. Nobody has the right to talk against one's countrymen and sportsmen. This should never be tolerated, and those who are doing this should be ashamed for making it a political issue. If I were the Prime Minister, I would have asked her to pack her bags and leave the country," he said.
