Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh recently made some bold statements around his son, along with dropping a few blunt takes on former India captain Kapil Dev. Speaking in a podcast “Unfiltered with Samdish Bhatia’, Yograj claimed that his batting average was better than his son Yuvraj.
The former Indian cricketer, who is often known for taking blunt jibe at several members of the Indian cricketing fraternity, also added that he wanted India to win the 2011 World Cup at home even if it was at the expense of his son’s life. Notably, Yuvraj Singh was diagnosed with cancer eight months after India won the World Cup. Moreover, Singh was adjourned the Players of the Series in the 2011 ODI World Cup.

Speaking in a recent podcast with Samdish Bhatia, Yograj Singh said, “For our country, if Yuvraj Singh had died from cancer and had won India the World Cup, I would have been a proud father. I still am very proud of him. I have told him this over the phone as well. I wanted him to play even when he was spitting blood. I told him, ‘Don’t worry, you won’t die. Win this World Cup for India’.”
The former India cricketer whose ODI batting average was 0.50 also said that he was better than his son and added that he worked 10 per cent like him, he would have been great. "I was a much better batsman than Yuvraj. Yuvraj Singh, if he has worked even 10 per cent like his father, he would have become a great cricketer" he said on Unfiltered by Samdish.
It is to be noted that Yuvraj Singh is regarded as one of the finest finishers in India. His knocks during the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup will be remembered forever. Specifically speaking of the 2011 CWC, Singh scored 362 runs at an average of 90.50 and a strike rate of 86.19, thus finishing with the Player of the Tournament award.
