Wanindu Hasaranga has become the most expensive Sri Lankan player in history of Indian Premier League as the all-rounder was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 10.75 crore in IPL 2022 mega auction on Saturday. After the bidding of Hasaranga was paused midway when auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed, an early lunch was taken and as the auction resumed, no one else bid for him and the 24-year-old was eventually sold to his former side (RCB, who had the last bid) as a result.

There were mixed reactions from fans on social media following the signing. While some wondered that RCB might have paid too much for him, the others opined that Hasaranga is one of the best T20 players in the world right now. The fans welcomed the all-rounder back to the setup, a team for whom he played last season.
