Rohit Sharma, who played his first competitive game after Test retirement with his appearance for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game against Delhi Capitals (DC), recorded failure with his bat while opening in the crucial game. Batting first after losing the toss, MI were expecting Rohit and his opening ally Ryan Rickelton to take Delhi’s bowling attack to the cleaners. However, the 38-year-old failed to pass the Mustafizur Rahman challenge and lost his wicket in the third over of the match, while attempting to play an aggressive shot.

The pacer got him caught at the hands of wicket-keeper Abishek Porel and concluded the veteran batter’s innings on run-a-ball five runs. It was the third instance in the cash-rich league that Rohit got dismissed against Mustafizur. The former MI skipper’s dismal outing gave his critics the chance to troll him on social media. Taking to X, a user named Adrenaline wrote, “How to cook Maggie. Boil one cup of water. As soon as Rohit goes for batting , put Maggie in the boiled water and add masala. Stir till Rohit is On field. As soon as Rohit is back in the pavilion, your Maggie is ready to eat. #TATAIPL #MIvsDC.”

MI batters under pressure on challenging Mumbai turf

Mumbai batters have got a stiff challenge from DC bowlers thus far in the game. Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton contributed the innings of 21 (13) and 25 (18) from their bats respectively but they also struggled to accumulate runs at a swift pace while facing DC's disciplined bowling unit.

Mukesh Kumar has claimed the prized scalps of Jacks and Tilak Varma while Kuldeep has got one wicket in the form of Rickelton. As of writing, Mumbai are 113/4 in 14.5 overs, with Suryakumar Yadav batting an unbeaten 33 off 26. After Varma’s departure, MI captain Hardik Pandya joined Surykumar in the middle.
