Ahead of Day 2 of the second Ashes 2023 Test at Lord's, both Australia and England were seen wearing special red-themed jerseys. The reason behind this gesture is the celebration of Red Ruth Day, a memorial for the wife of former England captain Andrew Strauss, Ruth Strauss.

The 46-year-old, who was a non-smoker, passed away in 2018 aged from a rare form of lung cancer.  Following her passing, the Ruth Strauss Foundation was created to celebrate her life and help families who have suffered losses due to non-smoking lung cancers and to contribute funds for research into the illness.

Celebrating this day, both Australian and English players will also don the red caps. Both the teams had done a similar gesture in the 2019 Ashes too. Red was Ruth’s favourite colour.
