The Chennai Super Kings recorded their second consecutive win for the first time in a row since 2024. The five-time champions achieved the feat as they defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 in the 22nd league-stage game of the Indian Premier League 2026. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side got off to a disappointing start of the season, where they lost their first three games before taking down the Delhi Capitals by 23 runs on Saturday, April 11.
Now on Tuesday, the Yellow Army hosted Ajinkya Rahane’s Kolkata in a high-octane clash at home, Chepauk. The hosts batted first and rode on Sanju Samson’s 48 runs off 23 balls and Dewald Brevis’ 29-ball 41 to post a modest total of 192 games at the loss of five wickets. In the second innings, the KKR aimed to claw back, but a lethal bowling lineup featuring stars such as Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Khaleel Ahmed, among others, ruined their plans.
The hosts restricted the Purple Brigade at 160 with the loss of seven runs, recording their second win a row. This also marked the first incident since 2024 when the Chepauk-based franchise recorded two straight wins. Previously, they defeated KKR and MI for two consecutive wins in the 2024 season. Not only this, but this is also the second time CSK has won while defending sub-200 out of 11 games since IPL 2024.
KKR remain winless till first 5 games for the first time in history of IPL
Apart from CSK’s record victory, the defeat for KKR also marked the first occasion they have remained winless after the first five games in the history of the tournament. Needless to say, this forgetful record comes as a worrying sign and needs a major shakeup in the team. In addition to it, the KKR have also recorded their sixth consecutive defeat (2025-26) marking the second longest losing streak for the three-time winners in IPL.
