The Olympic bronze medalist from Tokyo 2020, Lovlina Borgohain of India defeated Suyeon Seong of South Korea by 5-0 on points, to progress through to the semi-final in the women’s boxing 75kg category at the Asian Games 2023. On September 30, Saturday, with her comprehensive performance, the 25-year-old secured a medal for the country in the Asiad, along with the quota for the Paris 2024.

The Indian boxer dominated her opponent from South Korea right throughout the three rounds of their women’s 75kg quarter-final bout. All the five judges awarded the contest to Borgohain with a 30-27 margin against Seong, which helped her reach the semi-final.

Notably, this win from Lovlina Borgohain ensured the third medal for India in women’s boxing at the Asian Games 2023, after two time world champion Nikhat Zareen and Preeti Pawar achieved the same feat earlier. The three Indian women’s boxers were also able to get three separate quotas for the Paris Olympics next year.

The other quarter-final in the women’s boxing 75kg category saw Baison Maneekon of Thailand beat Erdenetuya Enkhbaatar of Mongolia by 5-0. She could be the semi-final opponent for Lovlina Borgohain in the Asian Games 2023.
