Indian boxer Parveen Hooda sealed her Paris Olympics 2024 berth after beating Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova in the quarterfinals of the women’s 57kg bout on October 1, Sunday. The Indian pugilist reached the semifinals and assured India of a medal at the Games with this win.

Hooda defeated the 2021 Asian Champion to qualify for the 2024 Olympics by a unanimous decision 5-0. With this she also assured India of the fifth medal at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in boxing.
Parveen is the fourth India boxer to seal the Paris Olympics quota after Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg).
Later in the day, India’s Jaismine Lomboria failed to surpass her North Korean compatriot and lost the bout after taking a lead in the first round. The second round saw the North Korean opponent throw a barrage of punches which the Indian pugilist failed to defend, losing the bout in Referee stops contest in Round 2.
