The Indian men’s football team qualified for the Round of 16 in the Asian Games 2023 on Sunday, September 24. The Sunil Chhetri-led side locked horns with Myanmar in the final group-stage match, and it was a must-win fixture for the Blue Tigers. On the Indian side, skipper Sunil Chhetri slotted the ball to the back of the net in the 23rd minute of the game.

However, speaking of their rivals, Myanmar’s Htwe Yan Kyaw successfully posted the goal in the net in the 74th minute of the match. With their victory in the match, the Blue Tigers sailed to the next round of the mega-sport continental event.

The team managed by Igor Stimac were coming on the back of win against  Bangladesh 1-0 after they lost 5-1 to China in the opener. The Indian men's football team, who are currently ranked 102nd in FIFA rankings, will face Group B runners up  Saudi Arabia in the pre-quarterfinals on Thursday, September 28.
