After a dominant performance by the Indian men’s hockey team, the women’s team also started their campaign at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 with a bang. The Savita Punia-led side thrashed the Singapore side 13-0 to register their first win in Pool match.

While it was Udita, who opened the scoring for the side in the sixth minute, Sushila Chanu took a 2-0 lead within next two minutes, followed by a third goal coming from Deepika in the 11th minute. The first quarter ended with India taking a 5-0 lead with back-to-back goals from Navneet Kaur. The galore of goals did not stop here as the Women in Blue continued to dominate against the comparatively lower ranked side, taking the scoresheet 8-0 at half-time.

The goal fest did not end here as Salima Tete with a beautiful finish took the charts 9-0 at the end of third quarter. S angita Kumari (47’), Vandana Katariya (50’), Monika (52’) Sangita (53’) were the other scorers from the side to finish the game with the scoreboard reading 13-0.

The Savita Punia-led side will next take on Malaysia on September 29 in their next Pool match.
