The Indian team suffered a 4-0 defeat against China in the first semi-final of the women's hockey event at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. After an incredible performance through the pool games and quarterfinal, the Women in Blue couldn't get off to a storming start as they failed to break through the Chinese defences over the first half.

Whereas China, after their slowish first half, found the back of the net in the 25th minute. It was Jiaqi Zhong, who scored first for the hosts and then doubled the lead with another clinical strike in the 31st minute. A struggling Indian team failed to penetrate the final third and also couldn't convert on the various penalty corners leading to a poor defeat.

But moments before the final whistle, the Chinese team hit the final two nails in the coffin to take an unsaleable 4-0 lead with goals in the 55th and 60th minute to clinch the spot in the final. Now India will face the loser of the second semi-final between South Korea and Japan in the bronze medal match.
