The trio of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Kusale, and Akhil Sheoran have set a new world record in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Asian Games 2023 to win the gold medal for India. On September 29, Friday, the Indian shooters achieved a cumulative score of 1769 points, to break the previous record of USA, which was set in 2022 at the CAT Championships.

The record-breaking performance by the men’s team garnered several reactions on social media and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter and congratulated Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Kusale, and Akhil Sheoran for winning gold in the men’s 50m rifle 3P team event at the Asian Games 2023.

India surpassed the United States of America’s previous record set in Peru last year at the CAT championships by eight points as the men's team registered a remarkable score of 1769. They were followed by China at the second spot with a score of 1763 to win the silver medal while the Republic of Korea scored 1748 to  earn the bronze in Hangzhou. This is India’s 15th medal and 7th gold in shooting at the Asian Games 2023, with two days of medal competitions still left.

Furthermore, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Swapnil Kusale have identical scores of 591 in qualification, to secure two spots in the final of the men’s 50m rifle 3P individual event, which is scheduled later today. With more shots closer to the inner 10s, Kusale will enter the individual final in first place, ahead of his teammate Singh Tomar.
