With this three-set win, Ayhika and Sutirtha became the first Indian women’s doubles pair to secure a medal at the Asian Games 2023. The Indian duo sealed the first game against the second-ranked team 11-5. They continued their dominance over the home favorites, registering yet another 11-5 result.

Thereafter, the pair of Ayhika and Sutirtha went down with the Chinese pair coming strong, taking the third set 5-11-5 but the Indian didn’t led the pressure built on as they cleared the game, registering a 11-9 win and registering a 3-1 upset to the Chinese favourites. The pair will next play on October 2 in the semifinals.

The Indian pair earlier this year beat the Japanese pair of Miyuu Kihari and Miwa Harimoto in the final to become the first Indians to win a Contender title in 2023 at the WTT Contender Tunis.
