Title favourites Australia faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their opening fixture at the T20 World Cup 2022. It was just not the day for the defending champions as they were completely outdone by the Kiwis. Nevertheless, as Aaron Finch said, Australia needs to win all of their group-stage games from hereon to stay alive in the competition and they have Sri Lanka standing in their way first up. Meanwhile, the Dasun Shanaka-led team turned things around after losing to Namibia in the first round and now are aiming high. Analysis
There were not too many impressive performances from Australia in their first game. A few batters started well but could not get a big score. Glenn Maxwell did score a few runs and at a decent pace too. So, for his all-round abilities, Maxwell is a right fit for the fantasy team. David Warner is also a good option to have although he did not score runs in the first game. Tim David’s six-hitting abilities could fetch valuable points and hence the swashbuckling batter becomes a good option to have. From Australia’s bowling lineup, Josh Hazelwood can be picked considering his knack for picking wickets. Adam Zampa is also a good option to have.
Sri Lanka has quite a few match-winners and the spin duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana is certainly among them. They were impressive in the first round and are expected to carry the form into Super 12s as well. Pathum Nissanka is another good prospect to have considering his ability to hit from the first ball.
