The sixth day of the 2022 Australian Open produced some thrilling contests where the players fought for a place in the last 16. While top seeds like Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Aryna Sabalenka, and Simona Halep cruised through the next round, fifth seed Andrey Rublev had to face a heartbreaking defeat in the men's singles. Meanwhile, tenth seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was knocked out after a defeat to Sorana Cirstea in the women's singles game.

Men's Singles top results

Title favourite and reigning US Open champion Daniil Medvedev once again put on a fine performance against Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp as he defeated him in straight sets. Medvedev defeated Zandschulp 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in 1hr 55min to reach the last 16 for the fourth straight year in Melbourne.

World number four Stefanos Tsisipas also joined Medvedev in the last 16 with a convincing victory over Frenchman Benoit Paire. He defeated Paire 6-3, 7-5, 6-7(2), 6-4 to enter the fourth round. Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Jannik Sinner, Maxime Cressy too joined top seed, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverv in the last-16 stage. However, the biggest upset of the day was for the fifth seed Andrey Rublev who had to face a defeat at the hand of 27th seed Marin Cilic. Rublev was defeated 7-5, 7-6(3), 6-3.

World number two Aryna Sabalenka overcame her servicing woes and cruised through the fourth round with a victory over 31st seed Marketa Vondrousova. The Belarussian defeated the Czech to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 on Margaret Court Arena to enter the last 16. Meanwhile, former world number one Simona Halep crushed the Australian Open dreams of Emma Raducanu's conqueror Danka Kovinic to power into the last 16. She defeated Danka 6-2, 6-1 to enter the fourth round.

Seventh seed Iga Swiatek also put up an impressive performance against Daria Kasatkina and beat her 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the next round. However, the tenth seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova had to walk through the exit doors after she lost to Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the fifth round.
