According to reports, Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana is likely to play the role of Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain, in his upcoming biopic under the production company, Luv Films. The director of the project is expected to be Aishwarya Rajinikanth, the daughter of Indian superstar actor Rajinikanth.

Ankur Garg and Luv Ranjan, two producers and filmmakers, met the former BCCI President at his residence on May 26, to work out the details about the film in all likelihood.

Peeping Moon, a Bollywood news website, claimed in a report that a source told them about Luv Films working out the details of the biopic behind the scenes. They also mentioned that Ayushmann Khurrana has been in touch with them for quite a while about playing the role of Sourav Ganguly on the big screen.

“The makers have been discussing this film with Ayushmann for several months. The talks have now reached an advanced stage, and it’s only a matter of some formalities before he is officially signed on. They are confident that Ayushmann, who is also a left-handed batsman, is an ideal choice for Ganguly’s role. Dada, as he is fondly called, has also approved Ayushmann’s casting and will soon meet him personally. Ayushmann will undergo months of extensive cricket training before starting the shoot,” a source claimed to Peeping Moon.

Notably, according to reports in March of this year, Ranbir Kapoor was initially in line to play the role of Sourav Ganguly in his biopic, but he denied them outright shortly afterwards. The rumours of Vikramaditya Motwane directing the project also surfaced, but it was later revealed that he turned down the offer made to him altogether.

Furthermore, it is also reported that the biopic of the Indian cricketing stalwart is going to be made on a big budget with a theatrical release. The shooting of the film is expected to begin by the end of 2023.
