Bayern Munich have suffered a major blow as their star midfielder, Jamal Musiala, has been ruled out for several weeks with a thigh injury. The 20-year-old tore a muscle fiber in the back of his left thigh during training on Wednesday, the club announced on their official website.
Musiala is one of the most influential players for Bayern and Germany. He scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists in 33 Bundesliga games last season, and also plays a key role in Germany’s lineup, where he scored once in 23 appearances.
Musiala’s injury is a huge setback for Bayern, who are aiming to win their 12th consecutive Bundesliga title under new coach Thomas Tuchel. The Bavarians started the season with a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen, with England captain Harry Kane scoring on his debut. However, they face tough challenges ahead, with games against Augsburg and Borussia Moenchengladbach coming up. Musiala might also miss Germany’s September friendlies against Japan and France.
Musiala was born in Stuttgart but moved to England when he was seven years old. He played for Chelsea’s youth academy before joining Bayern in 2019. He was eligible to play for both England and Germany but chose to represent the latter in February 2021. He made his senior debut for Germany in March 2021. He is also the first Bayern teenage player to complete 100 appearances
