Exactly at 7:16 PM IST on Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced 18-member squad for three-match Test series against South Africa which is scheduled to start later this month. As per the press note released by the apex body, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Mayank Agarwal were not considered because of their respective injuries. However, one news which raised eyebrows of all was, India's batting stalwart Virat Kohli getting removed from ODI captaincy. The white-ball duties are now been given to Rohit Sharma, who was recently made India's white-ball captain after Virat Kohli announced stepping down from the position right before the start of World Cup.

Interestingly enough, as per the reports, BCCI's selection committee gave Virat Kohli 48 hours to step down from ODI captaincy. However, when Virat Kohli didn't respond for two straight days (48 hours), the BCCI selection committee decided to give the position to Rohit Sharma. Well, Virat Kohli, who plays with such intensity on field, carries so many emotions, won so many games for the nation, and also carries a winning percentage of over 68 in ODI format, it wouldn't be wrong to say that the way he was ousted has not been one of the best decisions from BCCI.

In the press note released by BCCI, there was neither Virat Kohli's quote, nor the lad got a mention. It just said, "The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward."

The quote says it all. Virat Kohli was sacked from captaincy. Yes, we are living in those times where players like Virat Kohli also get sacked. Well, take it as a news piece, take it as a feature, take it anyway - but the truth is - Virat Kohli has been sacked from India's white ball captaincy.

End of a beautiful era. Let's hope Virat Kohli the batsman lives for long.
