The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to schedule its Apex Council Meeting on July 7 . The meeting will see discussions on key points like media rights, participation in Asian Games, title sponsorships and many other issues. With the country hosting the World Cup, BCCI will also set to have key discussions on the tour packages for the global tournament. Roger Binny and Co. will also host discussions on the renovations of stadiums for the marquee event.
Talking about the BCCI media rights for the 2023-28 cycle, Team India is currently without a broadcaster for home games after their deal with Disney Star fell through in March. Regarding the media rights, BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressed that the board is planning to conclude the process by August as he said, “The tender will be coming out soon. We’re planning to close the media rights process by August end.”
The Apex meeting will see discussions on permitting retired players to play foreign franchise tournaments like Ambati Rayudu, who is set to feature in the inaugural Major League Cricket in the USA. Similarly, the board will also take a call on playing conditions in Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament with the impact player rule, which was introduced for the 2023 edition.
Addressing the Asian Games, which will begin on September 23, right after Asia Cup, the BCCI will take a call on sending a second-string men’s squad for the event. Whereas a full-strength Women’s team will represent India at the continental event. Last, but not least, the BCCI will also discuss the approval of the Players’ Contract for both men and women players.
