After the postponement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, a lot of questions loom over hosting the ICC T20 World Cup in the country. With the mega tournament just a few months away, BCCI is set to make a call on the hosting of the tournament at the end of this month.
SGM to take place on May 29
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called for a Special General Meeting (SGM) on May 29 to discuss the fate of the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in October-November this year.
“The ICC will have a meeting on June 1 and before that, we will have our own meeting on May 29 to discuss the COVID-19 situation and what all measures need to be taken with an eye on the T20 World Cup which is slated to be held in India in October-November,” quoted a source speaking to ANI.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has finalised nine venues for the event, including Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Dharamsala and Lucknow. The board has also told the respective authorities to continue with the preparations irrespective of the future of the tournament in the country.
